Review of Little Lost Hero by GameDevDan:
Overall Gameplay (11.5/14 pts)
- Player Experience (6.5/8 pts)
- Quality of Mechanics (5/6 pts)
Comments: I liked the concept, and there were some cleverly-built levels. I disagreed with how the blue enemies moved - it seemed that their movement was random, which conflicted with the core idea of predicting enemy movements and worsened the player experience. There was an appropriate ramp in difficulty towards the end, but I skipped a few of the levels with blue enemies for the reasons stated above. The boss fight was fitted extremely well into the game mechanics.
Theme Inclusion (4/7 pts)
Comments: At its core the game is just a dungeon crawler. 'Overcome all odds' comes in purely through the backstory, which constitutes a relatively weak theme connection.
Overall Presentation (7.5/9 pts)
- Menus/Interfaces (2.5/3 pts)
- Quality of Graphics (2/3 pts)
- Quality of Audio (3/3 pts)
Comments: Presentation was good all around. Graphics followed a consistent style, even if I couldn't tell what the monsters were supposed to be half the time. Audio was fine and it fit the style.
No penalties assessed.
Final Comments: This is a polished game with a solid concept and an even better boss fight, there's just a couple small issues with the execution.
TOTAL SCORE: 23 / 30 PTS
