Review of Au Debut Ca Va by Team Vive Le France:
Overall Gameplay (8.5/14 pts)
- Player Experience (3/8 pts)
- Quality of Mechanics (5.5/6 pts)
Comments: Hate to say that I didn't really care much for the gameplay in this one. You had the threat of enemies on your left, which was fine, but you also had the threat of oncoming vehicles on your right, which went way too fast
to ever be able to dodge! And the weird reaction-based shockwave mechanic that made you quickly press a key didn't really mesh well with the rest of the game (not to mention that it forced an arrow-key control scheme instead of a WASD-scheme, which is a big no-no when a mouse is involved).
Theme Inclusion (3/7 pts)
Comments: I think the theme is adaptation? I'm not really sure - the only thing that comes to mind is the direction-changing mechanic.
Overall Presentation (8/9 pts)
- Menus/Interfaces (2.5/3 pts)
- Quality of Graphics (2.5/3 pts)
- Quality of Audio (3/3 pts)
Comments: The graphics and audio were bright, loud, and intense, which I actually really liked. Some of the visual elements didn't have quite enough contrast, such as the player bullets against the background.
No penalties assessed.
Final Comments: The presentation had an awesome personality but the gameplay implementation sorta let it down.
TOTAL SCORE: 19.5 / 30 PTS
